COVER STORY: Enfinger Development, Inc.

Sandra Steele, Enfinger Development, Inc.

The Tennessee Valley, with its breathtaking views and panoramic landscape, provides the perfect canvas for Enfinger Development to create award-winning master planned communities.

Since its beginning, Enfinger Development has set a new standard for neighborhood living. "The best places to live share the same name", is an ad campaign that is exemplary of the commitment of our company", says Sandra Steele, President of Enfinger Development. Steele, a lifelong resident of Madison County, manages the day to day operations of developing residential, commercial and industrial property. She has distinguished herself as a leader in the business community for more the twenty years. Steele has a commitment to smart growth in Madison County, and to the customers of Enfinger Development, "Our business philosophy is simple – to serve our customer."

"There are no shortcuts to success in the development business," says Steele. "We have a great group of professionals who believe in honesty and hard work." A company dedicated to environmentally responsible development, EDI has donated hundreds of acres of adjoining lands for preservation and provides the gift of a tree every year to each of its homeowners for the Annual Arbor Day Celebration. "The gift of a tree is our opportunity to enhance the landscape of our communities while giving back to our environment," says Steele.

Jeff Enfinger, the company’s founder, is the master planner and strategist, with more than 25 years as a developer in this community. Enfinger was the first to bring master planned communities to our area more than a decade ago. With a number of successful developments under his belt, Enfinger has distinguished himself as a land planner capable of meeting the challenge of preserving the natural amenities of a tract of land. "An integral part of the design process is to begin with the end in mind," said Enfinger. "We make every effort to incorporate the most environmentally acceptable use of the land throughout the design phase."

Enfinger Development has eight residential developments located in Huntsville, Madison and Madison County. Heritage Plantation in Madison is EDI’s largest development with over 600-acres and 500+ home sites. Heritage has more than 100-acres of lakes, parks, and nature areas that encompass approximately 20% of the entire development.

The Town of Waterford and Waterford Manor are the newest of the Heritage Plantation neighborhoods. Spanning over 100-acres of the planned community, Waterford offers both lakeside living as well as the privacy of estate living. Waterford Manor estate home sites range in size from one to six acres. This community enjoys 35+ acres of stocked lakes for fishing, miles of paved trails and nature trails for walking or jogging, and 90-acres of parks. The Town of Waterford is the site of the 2002 Showcase Home for the Huntsville Madison County Builders Association’s Fall Parade.

"Our communities are designed to provide families the opportunity to spend time together and achieve some balance in their lives right in their own neighborhood," says Steele. "They can explore nature in the parks, spend time with friends and family in the clubhouses, or take the family to the pool or the lakes for an afternoon outing, all without ever having to get in the car."

Enfinger Development communities are known for their emphasis on maintaining their neighborhoods, winning the Beautification Award for the City of Madison for the last several years for both Clift’s Cove and Heritage Plantation. Establishing and maintaining strong Homeowner Associations ensures the value and beauty of the communities for years to come.

Other Enfinger Developments include The Town of Cambridge in Heritage Plantation, Heritage Provence, Heritage Station, Clift’s Cove, Mt. Carmel by the River, Adams Alley, Kings Ridge, and The Bridges. To learn more about Enfinger Development Communities, you may visit them on the web at www.enfingerdevelopement.com.

Russ Russell Commercial Real Estate

Russ Russell

From the day he opened his company in 1987, Russ Russell has been setting the highest standards in Huntsville’s commercial real estate market. For a decade and a half, the area’s most qualified and hardest working realtor has been daily helping investors and users take advantage of opportunity. Russ Russell Commercial Real Estate offers its clients the sum total of Russ’s knowledge and experience as they seek his expertise in building profitable investment portfolios. His company specializes in an impressive array of real estate services: the commercial and investment brokerage business, tax-deferred exchanges, leasing, and build-to-suit properties.

Russ brings the insight born of deep familiarity with the area as his first asset to clients. Born and raised in Huntsville, he’s one of our own, committed to helping the Rocket City develop into an even better place to live and do business in the new millennium.

Knowledge is the foundation of expertise, and Russ has studied diligently to increase his qualifications and credentials, allowing him to better serve the interests of his clients. He holds a BSBA degree in real estate from the University of Alabama, making him one of the small minorities (about 1%) of Realtors who actually hold a degree in real estate.

His other credentials are equally rare and impressive. The National Association of Realtors and its affiliate, the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute, confer a special designation on the best of the best. The CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) title is given after a rigorous qualification process that emphasizes both theory and practice. Candidates complete a graduate-level curriculum totaling over 200 classroom hours, document professional transactions, and pass a day-long comprehensive examination. It is the most coveted and respected designation in commercial/investment real estate, held by fewer than 1% of Realtors.

Russ is also Huntsville’s first CEA (Certified Exchange Adviser). This title, conferred by the American Institute of Real Estate Exchangors, denotes expertise in section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code, a provision that allows individuals to pay no capital gains tax when disposing of business and investment-held real estate. The intense training and specialized knowledge required for the CCIM and CEA designations guarantees that Russ’s clients always receive wise counsel, making the most of every opportunity in Huntsville’s challenging market.

His education and expertise are first-rate, but it’s the natural talent, business acumen, and commitment to excellence that makes Russ stand above the rest. He’s committed to excellent client service, and has a passion for helping his clients minimize risk and maximize profits.

That’s what Russ Russell does best, and he does it better than anyone else in Huntsville. To put Russ to work for you, give him a call today at (256) 536-7777 or visit www.russrussell.com.

National League of Junior Cotillions

Judy Darwin

Meeting the former first lady, Barbara Bush, was a turning point in the life of Judy Darwin. The experience gave her a vision for instructing young adults in proper etiquette and the social graces. Within a year of moving to Huntsville, she began the local chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions.

Students learn the intricacies of ballroom dance and the proper etiquette for any social situation. By teaching the ladies to be ladies and the gentlemen to be gentlemen, she gives her students poise, confidence, social savvy, and leadership qualities necessary for success. Parents are particularly pleased with the instruction, as it builds self-esteem and confidence while setting boundaries for proper behavior.

For adults, Darwin offers Business Etiquette Workshops that teach social skills for business and formal occasions. With the past few years’ emphasis on E.Q. (emotional quotient) over I.Q. and the ever-growing realization that the ability to maintain relationships is a key success indicator, such training has never been in more demand.

Judy believes that anyone can benefit from what she teaches. "It is not a matter of where you are from, but rather where you are going and how you conduct yourself while on the journey."

The Gulas Group

Ted Gulas

Successful men and women – the high-performing, high-achieving leaders who find meaning and fulfillment in both their work and their life – have one thing in common: strategy. They clearly articulate a specific strategy for achieving their purpose, they execute and manage their efforts, and they deliver results that exceed expectations.

People who are stuck in “ruts”, who continue to view the world and their work with the years-old perceptions that no longer serve their purpose, can find themselves stymied by their own ways of seeing, working, and doing the tasks of their lives.

The Gulas Group exists to teach individuals, teams, and corporations how to break out of old patterns, enabling them to deliver the extraordinary, strategic outcomes they want.  The customized development strategies and initiatives provided by The Gulas Group will assist you, your team, and your company in fundamentally re-thinking how you perceive the tasks, process, and tools required to implement your strategy for success.

Ted Gulas, founder and CEO of the Gulas Group, developed the company after spending several years in the restaurant industry, real estate development, and working as VP of Sales and Marketing for a worldwide manufacturer.  In November of 1989, Ted founded the Gulas Group to incorporate his entrepreneurial background and global corporate experience into a development organization in Alabama.  His mission – to provide proven and measurable results in maximizing the human potential of every client.

The Gulas Group provides much more than “quick-fix smile training”.  Strategic partnerships enable them to provide content experts who deliver solutions.  Some of the primary partnerships are with Dr. Jennie Robinson of Personal Best Training and Donna Cash at Office Tech Systems.  The Group also has partnerships with international companies, such as Priority Management Systems, Inc., Objective Management Group, and The Sales Warrior Team.  Each partner is a content expert in their relevant field and subscribes to the theory of continuous, customized ongoing and reinforced development.

The Gulas Group offers the certainty of a measurable return of investment on every initiative they provide, or the client pays absolutely nothing!

Their track record is solid, and they come recommended by corporate giants such as AmSouth Bank and Parker Hannifin, as well as local organizations like Theatrical Lighting Systems, numerous Government organizations, and the American Red Cross.

The Gulas Group is available for coaching, speeches, and keynotes to associations or organizations on a variety of topics.  They also provide workplace assessment for new sales force hires, profiles for existing salesperson evaluations, and sales team overviews.

EyeCare Madison

Dr. William HolcombAmong the many wonders the twentieth century brought to us was an eyecare procedure called LASIK – Laser vision corrective surgery. In most cases, this fascinating procedures restores normal vision, allowing patients to toss their glasses and contacts for good. In the 1990s, ophthalmologists everywhere began touting the procedure, but few are as ethical and upstanding in their practice of it as EyeCare of Madison.

EyeCare Madison is dedicated solely to laser refractive surgery, providing complete surgical candidacy exams, preoperative assessments, laser vision corrective surgery, and postoperative exams. Yet, Dr. William Holcomb and Dr. Terry Dawson, the owners and operators, turn down as many as 25% of persons seeking the procedure. It’s not sound medicine to perform the procedure on every patient who walks through the door, because everyone isn’t a good candidate for it. The doctors of EyeCare Madison abide by the highest standards of ethical care, and only appropriate candidates receive this and other procedures at their hands. This policy leads to a tremendous level of confidence in the care received at EyeCare Madison.

Dr. Holcomb has been a certified ophthalmologist for over a decade. He graduated from the University of Alabama Medical School in 1986 cum laude before serving a 3-year ophthalmology residency at the Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham. Specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, he began performing refractive surgery in 1991 and laser vision corrections in 1995. He’s also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.

His commitment to maintaining the highest level of technology available to meet his patients’ needs means that Dr. Holcomb leases all of his equipment. That policy allows him great flexibility in upgrading his technology. High-quality laser vision surgery relies on expensive technology, and Dr. Holcomb strongly cautions patients not to "shop" the procedure on price alone!

There are many different types and brands of excimer lasers on the market used to perform LASIK. For nearsightedness, Dr. Holcomb currently prefers the Nidek EC-5000 laser for its accuracy and speed. Its "scanning slit" laser beam delivery is highly accurate and provides an extremely smooth sculpting of the cornea. For other applications, he uses the VISX S3, with its state of the art eye tracking system.

EyeCare Madison also offers all the latest options in handling the treatment of presbyopia (the need for readers after the age of 40), such as CK. All options are discussed in detail before a final decision is made for a particular patient.

The highest standards in ethical medical care. Tremendous qualifications. An experienced staff. If you’re considering Laser vision corrective surgery, there’s only one place to call: EyeCare Madison. For more information on LASIK or RK, please contact EyeCare Madison at (256) 461-8800 or toll free at 1-800-990-EYES.

Lee Builders, Inc.

Lee Builders

You hear lots of press these days about companies wanting to provide customer service and the importance of building reputations. The people (folks) at Lee Builders have known this secret from the beginning. Absolute integrity and honesty has been the cornerstone of the Lee family and, some would say, the distinguishing guiding force that has set their family owned construction business apart from the competition.

Even before in was popular to claim, Lee Builders’ primary focus is building relationships with its customers. These relationships have come back to Lee Builders again and again for continued assistance in their building programs. A major portion of the business of Lee Builders is the repeat customer. No better validation of the type of business ethics that Lee Builders represents, than the invitation to do more work.

But reputations in the construction business go far beyond ethics. You have to do quality work, be done when you say you will, and do it all at the best competitive price. As a contractor, the schools, churches, homes and offices that Lee Builders has completed, stand as a testament much longer than any glossy brochure.

Today, Lee Builders is adapting to new opportunities with the same business foundation that has proven successful for them in the past. With the expanding economy here in Huntsville, Lee Builders is developing new strategies that will take the business forward.

These strategies include expanding into the existing construction business into design-build and negotiated contracts. Lee Builders is also looking for the right real estate development opportunities. "We are aggressively pursuing the right opportunity," says Jack Lee, father of the three sons - Jeff, Bruce and Bobby, the principals of the family business.

Maintaining the successful mix of low risk and willingness to accept moderate growth and profitability, Jack Lee intends on using the same philosophy in real estate development that has kept Lee Builders afloat during the tough times. A self-financed corporation with low insignificant borrowing will ensure that these new ventures avoid the "major hurt" that tough times can bring to a company.

To expand into this new venture, Jack and his sons have added new personnel to the Lee Builders family. Max Sconyers has recently joined the firm as the General Manager. Max has experience in the commercial real estate arena as well as an extensive financial background. Max is a Civil Engineering graduate of Auburn University.

With new people and new ideas, Lee Builders is set to expand on its already established success in the construction industry. Call Lee Builders today at (256) 881-1778.

Janet LewisNOT JUST ANOTHER REALTOR

Janet Lewis’ business is philosophically driven to success, built on a foundation of commitment and knowledge, skillfully applied. "I’ve lived in the Huntsville and Madison area for almost forty years," says Janet. "The explosive, exponential growth of our area is something I’ve witnessed first-hand. The real estate market has dramatically changed."

In today’s progressive market, finding the right buyer for sellers and the right homes for buyers requires a bigger repertoire of tools than ever before. Teamwork, advertising, the Internet, communication, proper staging, appropriate pricing, and above all, dedication, come into play. Sellers combine their efforts with their Realtor in order to sell their homes for a fair and profitable price. Buyers are looking to make a tremendous investment, and they, too, must establish a partnership with their Realtor.

According to Janet, "The days of selling a home by putting a sign in the yard are long gone. The biggest trend, and one I believe is here to stay, is advertising that puts buyers and sellers in control. The Internet allows us to do just that. We put information and pictures of the interior, as well as the exterior, on our web sites, allowing the sellers maximum exposure. And buyers can make the best use of their valuable time by walking into the process with more information than ever before."

Janet believes communication and staging are paramount. She works with each buyer to understand exactly what they’re looking for in a home, and keeps her sellers informed of where things stand at all times. Janet knows that staging is crucial... more important than anything else, except pricing. The seller, therefore, plays a key role in selling the home, and she works with them to be sure they understand how to maximize their effectiveness in their role.

"I am proud to be a Realtor in our area, says Janet. "I enjoy working with people. Putting families into their homes is as rewarding as helping families move on to their next one. This is not a business for anyone with less than total dedication, but I love it and cannot imagine doing anything else."

If her philosophies put into action will meet your needs, please contact Janet at (256) 772-3000 or jlewis@hiwaay.net.

Southern Brick Institute

Brick has been part of Alabama’s heritage for a long time. Flip through any Alabama History textbook, and the photos of important brick buildings are obvious. Brick has been the high-quality building material of choice for millennia, dating all the way back to the Ancient Egyptians.

Today’s brick is better than ever, and today’s brick-buyers have more choices than at any time in the past. Unlike exterior sidings, brick has no "prepackaged" look. Its appearance varies tremendously, as diverse as the talents of the masons and creative architects working today.

Brick’s many benefits for the consumer, according to the building experts, include extended warranties (100+ years) and tremendous ease of maintenance. Spec homes can be done on a much faster turn-around time, and consumers are pleased with the 10,000+ different styles and colors of brick now available on the market.

Some of the new shades in the brick rainbow include: muted pastel shades, colored mortar, antique-look brick, white-washed brick, rock-shaped brick, and pastel coating systems. Additionally, the monolithic, Mediterranean look most commonly associated with stucco can be created through matching brick and mortar, or with a newly developed brick coating system.

For more information about the possibilities of brick, visit the Southern Brick Institute online at www.gobrick.com, or contact Franklin Brick, Jenkins Brick, or General Shale Brick.

Office Furniture Outlet

Niles Prestage

Ask Niles Prestage about his accomplishments and you’ll hear how delighted he was last year to be nominated as Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year. You’ll hear how flattered he was to be nominated again this year as Small Business Executive of the Year. Dig a little deeper and you’ll uncover the love and pride of a family man, foster parent and grandparent. "I thank the Lord everyday for allowing me to live long enough to be a grandfather," he said recently at his office furniture business on South Parkway.

Of course his wife, Judy, helped him achieve success by marrying him just one day shy of his graduation from the University of Alabama. Niles, a native of Huntsville and a 1965 graduate of Lee High School, began dating Judy Sims of Huntsville during her freshman year at the university. At that time, Niles was playing football or "keeping the bench warm" for the legendary Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant," Niles recalls with a smile.

The Prestage family has also grown over the years. Daughter Amanda is now married with three small children. Daughter Brittany joined the family as a foster child when she was four months old and adopted at age three. She just turned ten years old.

Twenty years after moving back to Huntsville and working in the insurance and carpet business, Niles made an investment in the building that now houses the main office and showroom of Office Furniture Outlet. That original 12,000 square foot investment has grown to three stores and 150,000 square feet, housing the largest stock of new and like new office furniture from Atlanta to Birmingham. Niles says, "Every year we try to upgrade our stock so we consistently offer the largest selection of office furniture at wholesale or near wholesale prices." Locations are 11507 South Memorial Parkway and 2117 Holmes Avenue in Huntsville, and 620 Wilson Street in Decatur.

White Tiger Graphics

White Tiger Graphics

Brad and Belynda Johnson were printers for over twenty years when they thought they were done. They sold their shop, Golden Rule Printing, and tried to settle into retirement. It didn’t last long. Brad and Belynda have a passion for this business, and they’re back in full-force with White Tiger Graphics.

From the beginning, their business plan was simple. Create a high-end printing company to serve the Tennessee Valley area, offering services and technology that couldn’t be found locally, anywhere else. Their method of implementing the plan was just as simple: hire and train the best employees, use the best equipment, and offer the best service for each and every customer.

The world standard for quality printing presses was the place to start. Brad believes the best equipment on the market is the brand of presses known as Heidelberg, so they installed multiple sizes, enabling them to offer their high-quality printing in a variety of formats. Their four presses range from a 2-color, 12x18 machine all the way up to a 4-color 28x40 machine. Additionally, they equipped two of their machines with inline aqueous coaters. This allows them to offer high gloss and dull coating to all their higher end jobs.

Their bindery was built on the same foundation – get the best and most efficient equipment available. Their bindery is equipped with the latest in high-speed binding equipment, also of the Heidelberg variety. If required, White Tiger Graphics can fold and bind 250,000 books a day. They are the only local printing company that offers such tremendous capacity. That’s why they lead the area in finishing technology.

And they’re proudest of their technology, of course, as befits the Rocket City. In June 2001, White Tiger Graphics installed the only computer-to-plate system in North Alabama. By the end of 2001, they made the transition from conventional prepress to a totally digital work flow. Brad and Belynda are proud to note that their clients have all found the transition a positive, helpful change.

Among the many benefits is getting to press in half the time at a higher level of quality. Their customers save time and money, and the company’s bottom line appreciates the efficiency.

Brad and Belynda and their qualified, dedicated team have exceeded every goal they set for 2001, and in 2002 they’re well on their way to an equal level of achievement in all three of their market segments: commercial sales, federal contracts, and media.

For all your printing and binding needs, give White Tiger Graphics a call at (256) 704-5333, or visit their web site at www.whitetigeronline.com. Or stop by and see them at 351-G Electronics Boulevard in Huntsville.

Meagan, "Wish Child"
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alabama, founded in 1987, is one of eighty national and twenty international chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. Their mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. They solely depend on the donations of individuals, businesses and civic groups to support its mission. The local office is located at 911 Big Cove Road, second floor, Huntsville.

The local chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation, through its staff and volunteers, fulfills special wishes of more than 210 critically ill children and their families each year. One of their recent recipients was a girl named Megan. Sixteen-year-old Megan, who suffers from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, recently received a computer with all of the trimmings. Volunteers traveled to Megan’s home in Waterloo, Alabama, to present her with a Compaq computer with Internet access, a printer, desk, chair and software accessories. This was even more special, as she was preparing to leave for St. Jude’s Hospital for a month on February 13th. Megan was so excited, that she even agreed to share her computer with her fifteen-year-old brother, Joshua. Several volunteers and companies in the North Alabama community helped make Megan’s wish a reality, including Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Cullman, Sam’s Club in Huntsville and the employees from the CompUSA store in Huntsville.

There are many children in need of having their ‘wishes’ come true and fortunately, many ways in which people and companies can participate in helping. Sponsor a Wish... with a donation of $5,000, a dream can become reality. Become a volunteer... Volunteers assist with fundraising, special event planning, office assistance and Wish volunteers. Organize a Special Event... dozens of companies sponsor anything from bake sales, parties, sporting events to dress-down days. Enhance a Wish. Enhancements are items that add to the magic of a wish and include backpacks, travel games, mouse pads, blank disks or desk sets. Donate Miles to a Child... donating $250.00 will purchase one airline ticket for a child who has a travel wish, or you can even donate your frequent flyer miles and you will help to defray the cost of more than 1,000 tickets needed for wishes this year. The Housekeepers, Inc.

Cindy and Steven RigdonFounded in 1996, The Housekeepers, Inc. is the result of a lot of hard work and effort by owners Cindy and Steven Rigdon. What started as a small business being run from their kitchen table, has today grown into one of the largest and most successful maid services in Huntsville.

"The future for us is very bright, sales are continuing to increase and we believe the trend will continue," says Steve. Future plans for the company include hiring an office assistant to handle some of the clerical demands of the business, allowing both Cindy and Steve to remain close to their customers. When asked what made their success possible, Cindy explains, "I think it is all about trust. Not only is a person’s home their most valued possession, it is also their most private." The trend in the industry was to go to team cleaning where several maids would clean the same house, with each responsible for a certain area or task. Cindy and Steve wanted a more personal experience for their clients, and from the beginning, decided to only send one housekeeper and to send the same person back on a regular basis. The result was that the homeowners got to know who was cleaning their home and the housekeeper was able to personalize her cleaning to each client. "Many of my long time customers have grown to look at their housekeeper as an extension of their own family," adds Cindy. "It is simply summed up in our company motto, Quality, Professional Maid Service at Affordable Prices!" For more information, call the office at 864-0004 or visit their web site at www.thehousekeepers.com.

World Response Group
(Sow-N-Gro)

Keith BedsoleGarden plant growth just got a lot easier.

The spring of 2002 brought with it the premiere of World Response Group Inc.’s original, patented technology that’s designed to let anyone pass for a green-thumbed master gardener.

Blair Blacker and Keith Bedsole bring a track record of entrepreneurial and administrative success to World Response Group. Blacker co-founded WRG after increasing sales in an alternative health company six fold in less than half a year, as well as winning an unsolicited proposal to the US Army. Bedsole, an MBA by education and training, brings a plethora of experience in successful start-up companies. He’s a former Fortune 500 Vice President who increased revenue by more than $1.8 Million per quarter for Dell Technology Services. Bedsole, Blacker, and their team are committed to the mission of WRG, providing problem-solving products that are as innovative as they are environmentally sound.

Chemical free, their mats and pillows use recycled human hair to promote the health, growth, and easy maintenance of garden plants. Human hair has natural fertilization and moisture-retaining properties, which WRG’s products utilize to promote plant health and growth. Sow-N-Gro products increase the plant’s moisture retention, which allows the root to absorb more water and nutrients. The result is a healthier, stronger, more resilient plant. Sow-N-Gro provides the added benefit of time-released nitrogen, an essential nutrient in the building of healthy plants. The combination of increased nutrient flow to the root and nitrogen supplements is unbeatable for unprecedented success in healthy garden plant cultivation.

Sow-N-Gro products are available in a variety of sizes. The larger rolls are perfect for big landscaping projects, or they can be cut to size, customized to fit any size planter.

World Response Group’s other key product, OttiMat, uses recycled human hair to repair and prevent the environmental damage caused by oil spills. Comprised of 99% recycled human hair and 1% polypropylene scrim, OttiMat adsorbs (holds onto) oil. Like Sow-N-Gro, OttiMat is chemical free and environmentally sound. It adsorbs petroleum-derived fluids such as oil, gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid, alcohols, acetone and various others. OttiMat does not retain water, making it an excellent adsorbent for drips, leaks, and pools on flat surfaces and by flotation on water. OttiMat can be wrung out and re-used or burned (as industrial fuel) and floats indefinitely. The potential for repair and prevention of environmental damage is unlimited with the use of OttiMat’s patented technology.

An environmentally sound, chemical free, innovative, technologically advanced problem-solving product produced by a team with solid leadership and strong roots in the Huntsville area. That’s the future of gardening. That’s World Response Group, Inc.

Holmes Sockwell • RISE Real Estate

Holmes SockwellWhen it comes to the cultural life in Huntsville, one real estate agent has the insider’s understanding that only deep roots in the area can provide.

Rise real estate agent Holmes Sockwell’s family came to this area almost two centuries ago. Her great-great-great-great-grandparents were some of the first Virginians to purchase land here. Later, their daughter’s family purchased about 3,000 acres in Fayetteville, becoming the "booger" of Booger Holler to scare people away. The idea caught on and soon there were Booger Hollers all over the area.

Holmes’s grandparents, Will and Myrtle Henderson Sockwell, purchased property in Madison County again – in 1935. Her other grandparents, George and Helen Elliott, moved from North Carolina to run the Dallas Mill. When the NASA boom began, they developed the first neighborhood, Whitesburg Estates, on what is now south Memorial Parkway. They supported the area hospital through its most difficult years, served in churches, and maintained political connections with Washington that eventually resulted in a new influx of technology, brilliant people, and prosperous times for Huntsville and North Alabama.

Holmes Sockwell’s family has been in the business of developing land in our area from the very beginning. Continuing the legacy, she specializes in finding appropriate horse properties for families interested in the cultural life of our area. No one’s roots are deeper, and no one’s understanding goes back farther. Give Holmes Sockwell a call today at (256) 337-0210.

David McCann, Bailey Chiropractic ClinicCelebrating his fifth year of practice, Dr. David A. McCann of Bailey Chiropractic in Huntsville offers what he refers to as "High Tech Low Stress Chiropractic Care". Dr. McCann, known to most of his patients and friends as ‘Dr. Dave’, graduated with his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan College of Chiropractic in August 1997. With undergraduate degrees in Engineering Technology and Human Biology, he has an interesting perspective on the inner workings of the human body.

Certified in Applied Kinesiology (AK) and trained in Arthrostim and Vibrocussor Adjusting Techniques, Dr. McCann has a reputation for helping patients who have been treated unsuccessfully by other physicians. Dr. McCann says, "The work I’m doing is unique in this area. Chiropractic care has advanced right along with everything else. I try to stay current and make use of the available technology. The AK enables me to determine the problem. The Arthrostim and Vibrocussor allows me to treat the problem quickly and more effectively. If someone is apprehensive about having their spine adjusted using traditional methods, they are more likely to respond better to these instruments. It’s less stressful on the patient. They’re more relaxed so they respond quicker."

SpineCare

Dr. Anthony Houssain & Dr. Scott LakesThe doctors of SpineCare believe in independence – yours. They specialize in the treatment of neck and back pain, but their philosophy is very different from the average chiropractic clinic.

"Doctor-dependency", where the doctor retains the knowledge and decision-making in your treatment and pain relief, is a very common approach these days. Drs. Anthony Houssain, Scott Lakes, and Shaun Aggarwal believe in something radically different. They educate their patients, enabling them to assume responsibility and control of their own pain relief. They believe in providing comprehensive, safe, and effective treatment backed by solid, scientific research.

That commitment to quality treatment backed by sound science is reflected in their outstanding credentials. SpineCare is the only clinic in Madison with Chiroractic Physicians who are board-certified through the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Houssain is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Whether your need is for post-surgical rehabilitation for your neck and back, relief from a sports injury, garden-variety back pain, bursitis, tendonitis, or something altogether different, the doctors of SpineCare have the education and expertise to assist you in getting out of pain and back to your favorite activities. Give them a call today at (256) 461-7775, or stop by 3825 Sullivan Street, Suite 1, in Madison. For your convenience, they accept and file most insurance.

Huntsville Aviation Charter

Steve KirkpatrickHuntsville Aviation Charter has been serving the Huntsville Community since 1968. They are the official on-demand airline for the Huntsville Airport Authority providing aircraft that range from a five passenger twin-engine Baron to jet service for up to fourteen.

As Steve Kirkpatrick, the President pointed out, "Many people assume that the cost of charter is prohibitive. I think people are confused by the fact that you pay for the aircraft not an individual seat like the commercial carriers. For example, if you flew to Eglin AFB/Destin, the standard coach fare would be $652. When you fly charter, the cost, exclusive of wait time, would be $1372. Considering that you can carry up to five people, the cost per person is only $274. Our rule is that if you fly three people to the same destination, we can generally be completive with standard coach airfare."

An additional consideration for business is that the true cost of air travel includes not only the ticket price but also the employee’s time. Based on an analysis of total cost for a trip to Washington DC, and applying the three traveler rule, charter travel can save the company $550 per employee over commercial travel when you consider labor and ticket costs.

Jones Fence
Enterprises, Inc.

Jones FenceSpencer Jones has built more than a fencing company. Jones Fence Enterprises is the realization of a dream, built on a solid foundation of values.

Over twenty years ago, with six children to support, Mr. and Mrs. Jones took a leap of faith and began their fencing company. The two eldest children began working with their parents immediately, while the third child babysat the three youngest children. Through the years, all six children have learned the value of hard work and contributed greatly to the success of the family business. Two of the children now run the day-to-day operations, though their father still plays an active role.

A variety of obstacles, including economic downturns and a Christmas Day fire that destroyed the company (at a time when finances had forced them to cut back on insurance,) have all been overcome with the foundation of hard work, faith, and family that the Jones family is built on.

Jones Fence Enterprises produces and services all types of fences, from residential chain-link to fencing on commercial plans such as Boeing and Target. They offer a full line of fences including vinyl, aluminum, ornamental steel, and wood. Additionally, the company fabricates and wholesales vinyl fencing, as well as installing it.

From the humble beginnings of a family business run by Dad, Mom, and the kids, Jones Fence Enterprises has grown to be an industry leader with over seventy employees. That success is built on a philosophy of integrity and fairness in all the company’s affairs, with both customers and employees.

The staff of Jones Fence is perhaps its greatest asset. Most of the company employees have been there for over ten years. Their knowledge of industry standards and commitment to the company’s philosophy makes their workforce truly that – a force to be reckoned with.

Jones Fence Enterprises is a member of the American Fence Association, as well as the Gulf South Chapter of that respected trade organization. They are also members of the Better Business Bureau, as well as the Morgan County Homebuilders Association and the Business Council of Alabama. The company was honored with a cover story in the only publication for the fence industry, World Fence News.

If a thorough job done with top-notch materials by honest, dedicated workers who know the fencing business is what you’re after, call Jones Fence Enterprises today at (256) 852-2105 or 1-800-45-FENCE.

Jerry Minor EnterprisesWhen the unexpected happens, homeowners need an expert. When a North Alabamian needs carpet repair, spot dyeing, tile cleaning, upholstery work, water damage restoration (including hardwood floors), or mold remediation, there’s only one expert for them to call: Jerry Minor Enterprises.

Jerry Minor’s commitment to quality work and exceptional service left him disillusioned when working for other people. That’s why nearly two decades ago, he opened his own business. His standard of excellence has never wavered. Jerry and his son, Joshua, strive for continual improvement of their skills and expertise. That’s why they’ve both recently completed training and certification in the newest and most effective structural drying process ever – the Vortex Drying System. The Minors demand the same standard of excellence from their employees. Their staff participates in weekly in-service education sessions to ensure that they perform their work with the highest level of quality – the level that customers all over our area have come to expect from Jerry Minor Enterprises. Combined, the staff has over a half century’s experience. Their service is full-time and an employee is always on call for any emergency situation.

Recent news stories have reported on litigation relating to mold and the health problems people can suffer from its effects. Mold in a home or business is serious business.
